NEET PG 2025 Qualifying Cut-off Scores
These are the minimum scores (out of 800) required for candidates to be eligible for the PG counselling process. The chart visualizes the benchmark for different categories.
The NEET PG 2025 Landscape
While results were declared early, a significant controversy over score discrepancies has overshadowed the process, stemming from a lack of transparency by the NBE.
A Crisis of Confidence
The early release of NEET PG results on August 19 was quickly followed by a groundswell of discontent. Many candidates reported huge, unexplained drops in their scores compared to their own calculations. This has become highly contentious because the exam was moved to a single shift specifically to increase transparency and eliminate score normalization.
The Core Conflict:
- The NBE does not release official answer keys or candidate response sheets, citing a non-disclosure agreement.
- This “black box” system leaves no official way for students to verify their scores or challenge potential errors.
- The lack of a normalization process this year means any perceived error points directly to fundamental flaws in the scoring or master answer key.
- Aspirants are now pursuing RTIs and legal options to demand greater transparency.
Path Forward: Counselling & Reforms
The MCC is expected to announce the 50% All India Quota PG counselling schedule soon, likely starting in September. The process will be governed by a new set of Supreme Court directives aimed at increasing fairness and transparency.
Key Mandated Reforms:
- Synchronized counselling schedules between national and state bodies.
- Use of Aadhaar to prevent a single candidate from blocking multiple seats.
- Mandatory disclosure of fee structures by private universities beforehand.
- Penalties for candidates who block seats but don’t take admission.
AIQ NEET UG Counselling
The MCC has finalized a delayed Round 1 and swiftly moved to announce the schedule for Round 2, providing a clear path forward for undergraduate aspirants in the All India Quota.
AIQ Round 1 Seat Allotment
A total of 26,608 candidates were allotted seats in the first round. The chart below shows the distribution across MBBS, BDS, and B.Sc. Nursing courses.
Timeline for Rounds 1 & 2
Round 1 Finalized
Result: Aug 13 | Reporting Deadline: Aug 23
A key feature was the post-joining Seat Resignation Window (Aug 21-25), allowing a “free exit” for students to explore state options without forfeiting their security deposit.
Round 2 Commences
Registration: Aug 21-26 | Result: Aug 29
Registration is now open for a broad group of candidates, including those not allotted a seat in R1, those who took a free exit, and those seeking an upgrade from their R1 seat.
State-Level Counselling Status
The situation for the 85% state quota seats is highly fragmented. While many states are proceeding on schedule, major disruptions in others have created widespread uncertainty. Use the filters to explore the status of each state.
Case Study: The Economic Divide in Rajasthan
Rajasthan’s Round 1 results starkly illustrate how financial capacity impacts medical admissions. The chart compares the minimum qualifying marks for a highly subsidized government seat versus expensive private and NRI quota seats.
Judicial Interventions & Policy Shifts
The judiciary has been a key player, establishing firm precedents on exam integrity while protecting students from procedural errors. Meanwhile, a significant increase in medical seats has been announced.
The Supreme Court has firmly refused to entertain petitions challenging the final NEET UG results based on alleged answer key errors. The Court’s stance is that post-result challenges would cause chaos for lakhs of students. However, it has shown a willingness to intervene in cases of clear procedural errors, such as ordering a manual re-evaluation for a student who received a misprinted question paper. This establishes a clear line: the court will not question academic content but will correct administrative injustice.
High Courts have been the primary arena for state-level disputes. The Calcutta High Court case over OBC reservation directly led to the suspension of counselling in West Bengal. In a landmark ruling, the Allahabad High Court upheld the primacy of the centrally-issued Unique Disability ID (UDID) card for PwBD candidates over assessments by counselling-designated medical boards, securing the rights of disabled students.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) Chairman has announced an expected addition of ~8,000 new MBBS and PG seats for the 2025-26 academic year. This positive development comes after a temporary halt on approvals due to a CBI probe. While this offers hope for borderline candidates, it creates an information imbalance, as students in early rounds are making choices without knowing the final, expanded seat matrix that will be available in later rounds.
